Oakridge sits on a broad, gently rolling plain along the southern edge of the Glenmore Reservoir, with wide streets, large lots, and mature tree cover. The open exposure toward the reservoir and Weaselhead creates strong wind channels across the northern and western edges, loading snow against west- and north-facing fences, garage doors, and rear laneways. Pathway corridors along the reservoir and Weaselhead act as wind tunnels during blizzards, creating drift-prone zones on pathway segments and trailhead parking aprons.

The mature tree canopy and reservoir proximity create a distinct refreeze hazard. Shaded streets and north-facing driveways under mature trees refreeze quickly after Chinook melt or midday sun, especially on internal loops that don't get direct afternoon light. Meltwater from the rolling plain tracks toward the reservoir and park edges, pooling in low spots near pathway underpasses and trailhead parking areas, freezing into black ice on sidewalk aprons and pathway segments. Reservoir-adjacent sections can experience localized fog and moisture during warm spells, refreezing on shaded surfaces overnight. We plan extra time for these shaded zones and bring targeted de-icing equipment to handle the reservoir's unique freeze-thaw cycle.
