Marda Loop sits on a gently sloping plateau above the Elbow River valley, with elevations ranging from 1,060 to 1,095 metres. The neighborhood's exposed streets along Crowchild Trail catch the full force of northwest Chinook winds, creating deep windrows on wide collectors like Crowchild Trail, 14 Street SW, and 17 Avenue SW. Open corridors along these arterials act as wind tunnels, with corner lots facing these roads seeing 2–3× deeper drifts than interior streets.

The escarpment-side streets near River Park and shallow coulee depressions along 33rd and 34th Avenues create a distinct refreeze hazard. Rapid Chinook thaws send meltwater pooling along the commercial corridor, which freeze into sheet ice overnight. North-facing driveways – common on east-west streets – stay in shadow for 6–8 hours in winter, creating persistent black-ice patches that don't melt until late afternoon. We plan extra time for these shaded zones and bring targeted de-icing equipment to handle the Elbow River valley's unique freeze-thaw cycle.
