Rocky Ridge sits at Calgary's highest residential elevation – up to 1,275 metres – on a broad ridge at the city's extreme northwestern edge. The neighborhood's exposed ridge-top streets along Country Hills and Twelve Mile Coulee catch the full force of northwest Chinook winds, creating deep windrows on wide collectors like Country Hills Boulevard, Twelve Mile Coulee Road, and Rocky Ridge Boulevard. Open corridors along these arterials act as wind tunnels, with corner lots facing these roads seeing 2–3× deeper drifts than interior streets.

The coulee-side streets near Twelve Mile Coulee and shallow depressions along Rocky Ridge Boulevard, Rocky Ridge Gate, and the Twelve Mile Coulee pathway system create a distinct refreeze hazard. Rapid Chinook thaws send meltwater pooling along steep slopes, which freeze into sheet ice overnight. North-facing driveways – common on east-west streets along the northern and southern boundaries – stay in shadow for 6–8 hours in winter, creating persistent black-ice patches that don't melt until late afternoon. We plan extra time for these shaded zones and bring targeted de-icing equipment to handle the ridge's unique freeze-thaw cycle.
