New Brighton sits on a gently sloping plateau at 1,020 metres elevation, a master-planned family-oriented community. The neighborhood's exposed ridge-top streets along Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail catch the full force of northwest Chinook winds, creating deep windrows on wide collectors like Deerfoot Trail, Stoney Trail, 52 Street SE, and 130th Avenue SE. Open corridors along these arterials act as wind tunnels, with corner lots facing these roads seeing 2–3× deeper drifts than interior streets.

The 12-acre central pond and wetland systems create a distinct refreeze hazard. Rapid Chinook thaws send meltwater pooling along low-lying pathways near the pond, New Brighton Club, and athletic park, freezing into sheet ice overnight on adjacent sidewalks and driveway aprons. North-facing driveways – common on east-west streets along the northern and southern boundaries – stay in shadow for 6–8 hours in winter, creating persistent black-ice patches that don't melt until late afternoon. We plan extra time for these shaded zones and bring targeted de-icing equipment to handle the pond community's unique freeze-thaw cycle.
