The neighborhood's open prairie exposure means strong, unobstructed winds sweep across the community, loading snow against north- and east-facing fences, garage doors, and rear lane gates, particularly near the 64 Avenue and Métis Trail edges. The airport-adjacent location amplifies wind effects during blizzards, with gusts funneled along Métis Trail and McKnight that increase drift potential on west-facing driveway approaches and laneways.

The flat grades simplify plowing but also mean windrows left across driveway aprons can still cause vehicles to hang up if the snow is packed hard, particularly on laned properties and townhouse clusters. North-facing driveways and shaded sections under mature trees and between taller townhouse/condo blocks refreeze quickly after daytime melt, especially on internal crescents and laneways that get limited sun. Low-lying areas near McKnight Boulevard and Métis Trail see meltwater pooling during Chinooks, then refreezing into black ice on adjacent sidewalk aprons and pathway segments near bus stops and retail access points. Retail and LRT hub zones around Sunridge/McKnight Village and Whitehorn station see repeated stop-and-go traffic; any melt/refreeze cycle quickly creates slick patches on crosswalks and loading zones.
